Welsh Brass Consort
The Welsh Brass Consort was formed in 1974 and has been made up primarily of players from the Orchestra of Welsh National Opera.
This well known ensemble has brought high quality brass chamber music to all parts of Wales. With the help of the Arts Council of Wales 'Night Out' scheme, we have been able to take music into the community, giving premieres of works written by Welsh composers including Mervyn Burtch, Gareth Wood, Ian Lawson, Christopher Painter, and the BAFTA award winner John Rae along the way, alongside music from the lighter musical repertoire.
Outside of the group, the members work in the musical field takes them all over the world, from Cardiff to California, and Tonbridge to Toronto, working with the major British orchestras, and as soloists in their own right.
Our concerts contain a balanced programme, with something for most musical tastes. We try to introduce the listener to some original music for the Brass Quintet, and this usually concludes the first half of the concert. The evening is compared by Martin McHale, who brings his own inimitable, witty and informative style to guide the listener through the evening’s entertainment.
The group have released their second CD ‘Strike Up The Band’, featuring popular classics, and broadway tunes. This is the perfect antedote to their first CD, 'Celtic Diversions' which contains original Welsh music for brass.
